Pregnant and Parenting Teens
Young women in state’s care are reported to be twice as likely as their peers who are not in state’s care to become pregnant before the age of 19. Home of the Innocents has long recognized that pregnant and parenting teens need a safe place to go.
The Pregnant and Parenting Teens program provides support to pregnant teenagers who have their own histories of trauma and abuse. It is a residential program that includes therapeutic help and support, prenatal care, and parenting classes. Individual treatment plans are created for each resident with specific goals to achieve.
The young mothers and fathers are able to continue to stay in the program with their babies and learn positive parenting techniques. This program creates opportunities for young parents to learn solid parenting and life skills to help break the cycle of violence they themselves experienced.
